"The Helm is Manned"
Can't click to move? Ship sailing on its own? Here is why your crew has mutinied (not really).
The Cause
You have assigned a Crewmate to the Captain role.
Why is this happening?
In the OSRS Sailing skill, you can hire crewmates. If you assign a crewmate to the "Helm" or "Captain" slot in the Crew Management interface, they take control of the ship's movement.
This means your click-to-move inputs are ignored because the AI is steering.
How to Fix It
- Open the Sailing Tab (Anchor icon).
- Click on Crew Management.
- Find the crewmate assigned to the Helm icon.
- Right-click them and select "Unassign" or drag them to "Idle".
- You should now be able to click the Helm and steer manually.
FAQ
Is there any benefit to manning the helm?
Yes! If you set a destination on the World Map, an assigned Captain will
auto-pilot the ship there, allowing you to AFK or do other activities on deck (like Fletching).
