What is Tick Manipulation?
In OSRS, actions happen in 0.6-second intervals called "ticks". Standard salvaging takes 5 ticks (3.0 seconds) per action.
By starting another action (like using Herb Tar on a clean herb) right before salvaging, you can trick the game into resetting the action cycle, allowing you to salvage every 3 ticks (1.8 seconds).
How To Do It
Requirements
- Herb Tar: Any tar (Guam, Marrentill, etc.)
- Clean Herb: Matching the tar.
- Pestle and Mortar: To reset the animation (optional but recommended).
- Salvaging Hook: Equipped or in inventory.
The Cycle
- Tick 1: Use Herb Tar on Clean Herb (starts the 3-tick cycle).
- Tick 2: Click the Shipwreck to Salvage.
- Tick 3: Wait (Character performs salvage).
- Repeat: Immediately use Tar on Herb again.
FAQ
Is this allowed?
Yes, Jagex has confirmed that tick manipulation is a valid game mechanic and not
a bannable offense.
Is it worth the effort?
Only if you are trying to maximize XP/hr. For most players, the standard AFK
method is sufficient.
