Sloop OSRS: Mastering the Small Ship
The Sloop is the starting vessel in OSRS Sailing, but it's deceptively powerful. Learn how to optimize your Sloop layout for maximum XP.
Why Choose the Sloop?
- ✅ Agility: Fastest turning radius.
- ✅ Cost: Cheapest to repair and upgrade.
- ✅ Solo: Perfect for solo sailing training.
What is the Sloop in OSRS?
The Sloop is the smallest class of ship available in Old School RuneScape's Sailing skill. While it lacks the massive cargo hold of a Galleon or the combat durability of a Skiff, the Sloop excels in maneuverability. It is the preferred choice for players focusing on speed-running delivery contracts or navigating tight treacherous waters.
However, due to its compact deck size (only 3x4 usable tiles), placing facilities like the Crystal Extractor requires precise planning. A single wrong tile can block access to the sails or the helm.
Optimal Sloop Layout
Because space is at a premium on a Sloop, you cannot afford to waste tiles. Here is the golden rule for Sloop layouts:
The "Starboard Hug" Strategy
On a Sloop, always place your primary interaction facility (like the Crystal Extractor or Salvaging Hook) on the Starboard (Right) side, directly adjacent to the Helm.
Correct Sloop Placement: Notice how the facility is within 1 tile of the captain's standing position. This allows you to interact without your character running around the wheel.
Sloop Features & Benefits
The Sloop reaches top speed faster than any other ship class.
Can perform a 180-degree turn in just 2 game ticks.
Repairs cost 50% less resources compared to a Galleon.
